2013 LC- just got it. Never owned a 4x4.
4x4 service was done by previous owner at 75k.
First month of ownership had to replace the radiator due to a “common” problem causing a crack. Second month replaced struts, brakes. Then….
Was driving on snow and ice at low speed, switched from H4 to L4 - if the change happens in neutral but rolling around 15 mph, what can happen?

The 4lo light started blinking, then next day engine light came on.
Toyota dealer ran codes. Said code referred to master brake cylinder and gas cap. Recommended replace MBC. They Reset the codes. Replaced gas cap since it had old seals- (can set off the 4lo and engine lights)
No lights are on. Seems to be running great. How do i know if brake master cylinder is needing replaced?
The Toyota dealership came to the conclusion to replace MBC by deduction only. Did not visibly see any signs that it needed replaced.
I would love input to help me decide whether to replace it.
 
Not sure about the technical aspect of how to identify but getting second or third mechanic opinion is the way in my opinion.
 
Nobody on this forum uses a Toyota dealership unless its absolutely necessary , trouble is you see they have easy access to a fortunes worth of parts that need shifting .

Few years ago now my daughter in law was invited to a main dealer on the pretext her 10 or 15 year old Corolla might have missed a recall .
Then they told her she needed her aircon serviced and a new tyre or something , a whole list of nonsense adding up to about a grand and they couldn't give her car back until the work was done because it wasn't safe .

Not half hour later when i walked in up to my elbows in oil and said give me the keys they just handed them over without saying a word .

There's good ones and bad ones in any trade but a reputable garage will fix any car so they need to know what they are doing .
