Returning to Toyota parts quality. I am not a monster, rather a small frame. I did not use any extender of a breaking bar. After changing oils yesterday I went under the vehicle to inspect for leaks. The gearbox fill hole was showing some oil. It was problemmatic before as well. So I was tightrning the plug and suddenly it went much easier. I reached for a stronger glasses and to my horror there is a crack. I have to say I reused the bottom plug to plug that hole because the plug that was there had the head pretty damaged, but otherwise they looked identical.

I think the vehicle is still driveable, I will put silicon over that, but any suggestion apart from a new gearbox installation? The vehicle is close to 400,000km.

Get yourself a new plug and some JBWeld , a light coat of grease on the plug should prevent the JBWeld from sticking to it .

You should use a new crush washer each time, especially on aluminium casings. Makes a good seal without having to overtighten the nut.

It may be possible to get it TIG welded. Find a good welder for his opinion. I've seen cracked motorcycle engine cases welded insitu.

It's the filler hole so its not nearly as worrying as the drain plug .

Thank you Shayne, epoxy did not cross my mind :) If Selleys does not hold, will try that. Otherwise in 4 years I will remove the plug, drill a 5mm hole in it, cut 6mm thread in it and silicon of glue it back. 6mm hole should be enough for my Chinese oil pump to fill the gearbox.

All washers are new copper, that hole was problemmatic before. Others do not leak. Should have used a plumber's tape :)
