I have since altered my EGT sensor from a POST to PRE situation in my manifold before the TURBO. The EGT stilldoes not register. All wiring has been checked by an auto electrician and found to be attached correctly.
I have just spent last weekend in the bush hunting wild pigs, and we were up to our axles in mud etc. The engine was working hard, but still no temperature registered on the EGT. After one heavy day I checked the temperature with a laser temperature gauge one were the sensor entered the manifold, with the engine running, and it was at 215 degrees C. The EGT starts at 3 x 100 degrees C. 300 degrees C. I am using SAAS gauges, and on the instruction manual they are called 'Muscle Car' models. On checking other brands of EGT gauges I also find that these also start at 300 degrees C. My 1995 1HDFT vehicle, has a 3" Exhaust, An above engine, specialist made intercooler. A transmission cooler, and a large Torana reverse bonnet scoop. My new TURBO is made by GARRET especially for the 1HDFT model engines, and fits directly to the engine without any alterations. She runs nicely with a boost of 15 psi. But I am now running it at 16 psi. But that is it. I have since go through two 95 litre tanks of Diesel since the 'Turbo' upgrade, with no fuel pump adjustments, with the basic settings made by Toyota. Prior to upgrade with basic Turbo fitted from OE. 13-14 litres per 100 kilometres. 11 litres per 100 kilometres on a trip of over 500K. Since fitting Upgraded GARRETT Turbo recommended by Toyota to just 'slot in' to the 1HDFT. 11 litres per 100 kilometres.
This is as my daily drive around Auckland, The cost of the Turbo upgrade was NZ$3,500.00. that included the sale of my old Turbo as exchange. POWER! did I mention power, well I have POWER to burn. Remember that this is a 29 year old vehicle that I have kept in pristine condition since purchasing it from Japan some 22 years ago. They were basically 170 HP units, but with some modifications I can see 185 +. She is a pleasure to drive.
I have painted her completely BLACK, that includes all badges and graphics with "RAPTOR COAT' and call her 'BLACK BETTY'.
