Hello, 80 Series

Hi Everyone,

I've just joined. Last year I imported into Ireland an 80 Series from Japan: 1993 petrol with only 54,000 km, no rust, and a full service history (which Google image translate handles very well.)

After 6,000 km the only problems I've noticed are: (1) the beginning of a moly grease leak from a CV joint; (2) pressure in the fuel tank (evap system problem?)

The only work I've done is to replace lots of aged rubber vacuum hoses in the hope that it would cure the evap system. The heater hoses had already been replaced.

No mods planned and no big trips planned other than camping around Europe.

And to answer a frequently asked question: I chose petrol because >90% of my trips are <20 km and it's simple to maintain (no turbo, no timing belt, etc.)

Howya;s ; I've a 97 petrol brought back from the States. runs LPG as well. I'm down in Athenry
CVs with 'leak' (more goop than fluid) is a common issue. I've mine to redo again (oil seal on axle that goes), Check your diff breather is open and working
The gas 'pressure' on the fuel cap is likely a blocked fuel canister

Hi Guys,

Sorry for not answering until now! Can't believe it's been nearly a year. All going great (apart from the aforementioned) after after about 15,000 km since Japan. See below for a pic from a trip to Achill.

Diff breather seems to be OK. I've tried various things with the charcoal canister without success; but the pressure in the fuel tank isn't getting any worse which is a relief.

Will try to get at least the CV leak done soon. You might have already come across this great video about how to do it:
