Pinterest is what i want gone but there doesn't seem to be any options to block a specific address any more ?

I have been going around in circles for over an hour learning nothing of any use as the only suggestion on the web that did do something told me to get a block site add-on extension . All it did is block me which is a bit pointless .

I want all and anything to do with pinterest to vanish from my search results .

Suggestions welcome .

I have Win7 running firefox with a google toolbar .

Is this any help Shayne?

Google shut that service down a while back, but they have a chrome extension that lets you do something similar. if you are not using google-chrome, there are similar extensions for Firefox as well.

I wonder if parental lock software might help here as well; unfortunately, I've not used Windows in over 12 years now, so cant help with specific software names etc. And I dont know if the default Microsoft browser ( whats it called these days ? ) has any support for blocked content directly.

regards

You could try opendns, then set your router to use their DNS server. I used them many years ago and they were pretty good back then. Of course you can still bypass them by setting your own DNS on your computer or typing in the IP address for a site but opendns is one of the easiest ways to block all kind of nasty stuff.

Thanks guys , sign up and sign in to switch it off seems to be the way of things nowadays and if i do that i will swap pointless dead end search results for targeted marketing and completely irrelevant results :sad-roulette:

absolutely.

What exactly are you trying to achieve ? Do you not want to see anything from Pinterest ? if so, you might need to work with the search engine on that one... on the other hand if you want to block the site ( as in, if someone tries to goto the site, they get a 'site is blocked' message ), thats easier to do. And can likely be done on your computer itself.

I use google images randomly like today to pass the time it was overland vehicles which went to vw campers to modified BMW saloon cars to fibreglassing to galvanizing to chevy small block v8

But as the day has gone on pinterest has increasingly blocked me with "please sign in" and because i have no clue other than the pic searching for the blog or forum the pic came from is nigh on impossible .

Google images used to be a quick link to interesting articles but right now 90% of images are a pinterest dead end .

I learned today typing -pinterest or -landrover (that's minus before the word) will remove them from results .

I did the child blocker thing so now instead of the please sign into pinterest dead end i get this site is blocked dead end which makes no difference at all .

yeah, I know what you mean - there are a ton of images on pinterest and they encourage google to index and report on them. Sucks. I guess the only option there would be to maybe just get an account - however, what you are doing is going to give you better results. almost all the content on pinterest is actually also available elsewhere.

Reading up on pinterest there seems plenty of unhappy people out there who have signed up only to find it takes an hour to find the image you wanted to learn about IF you find it at all .
I have no paypal , no google , no ebay , no amazon accounts nothing . This forum is about the only place i sign in to and stay logged on , even my only email address gets logged off as soon as i have read mail .

With data 'harvesting' going on to such a great degree it will become increasingly difficult to not sign up somewhere.

Look at the TV adverts, they offer web addresses so you can shop online, they will all expect your phone number to proceed, that clever advertising box in your pocket, no ability to change channels! Most will not hesitate to change their email address if it becomes spammed too often, but changing your phone number is not an often welcomed option.

Witness the very clever 'Which' adverts, no web address to request that special free magazine, it will be available ONLY if you give your phone number by texting....clever!

If in windows use IE to block the site, I use WIN 7 64 bit and upgraded DOWN from WIN 8.1 touchscreen to WIN 7) work great.

Unsure about other browsers,

Funny... I was looking for a way to keep these bastards (Pinterest) out of search results. Same problem, they are spamming the Net with their pictures, using dirty tricks to arrive on top of the results, and you get nothing because they want you to sign in to access the pics.

There must be a tweak on Google where you can set it up to ignore results from a particular site. After all, they can filter content from titties sites.

Will only work Philip if you sign up for a google account and sign in while doing random searches , so google can rape you of info and waterboard you with "interest based" advertising .

Everything we do online is already recorded to your IP address by google and the likes and there is no way to hide from this but for legal reasons i suppose they have to pretend they don't do this .

To give them your name , email , phone number is to give them absolute rights to invade your privacy in anyway they choose .

The gov now has the same ability they know who you are ,what you think , where you live , who your friends are , what you buy what porn you watch , who your grandparents were even if they died without ever seeing the internet .

Like it or lump it that's the way the worlds gone and i really don't care . What i do care about is getting relevant search results , most of my interests would be considered vintage and if i search for morris minor i don't want to be offered a new nissan micra or some such because it has similar attributes and they think they might sell it to me :angry-banghead:

You don't need to be on a Google account to be targeted by adverts... cookies on your computer tells sites where to knock, and your IP is used by Google even without you being in their books.

Get yourself a VPN, use DucduckGo or other non-recording search engine, use a safe browser like SnowHaze, and you can go around the Net without being tracked at all corners. Of course, if you're not in the crosshairs of some seriously big Agency... :) Because then you'd need more than that.
