Hi all, I'm PJ from Cornwall in the UK
Currently am looking for a cruiser having been a land rover man for a long time and still own a series one for my sins.
Looking for a decent 100 series auto diesel for a bit of green lane work and for daily on these Cornish lanes.
Used 100 series in my previous job and as such hold a special place in my heart.

Welcome PJ

As a regular green laner I'd say a 100 series might just be a bit big for serious stuff. Some of the lads on here came in 100's on the last club laning trip and did ok but some of the lanes I've done in my 80 would have suited a Colorado or Suzuki better.
One upside is that there are a lot more Hundreds for sale a lot cheaper than 80's.

Someone might pop up here with a looked after 100, you never know :) .

Thanks, am looking at the upside as you say. More 100s than 80s. Just looking to potter on a few lanes and then the roads down here are becoming more and more like lanes. Will keep my eyes peeled to see if any decent 100s pop up via the forum.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hi PJ, welcome to the forum!

Rust is the biggest enemy of the 100 (like any Cruiser), and fuel bills the next biggest. Otherwise, they're really superb vehicles.

Inspect the underside carefully for rust on any you consider buying. Unfortunately the worst spots are hard to get to – the sills behind the rear wheel arches are the worst, but are hidden by the rear bumper. The rear bottom of all the wheel arches all tend to corrode. The rear crossmember under the boot, body mounts, etc. are worth checking.

You won't find one that's perfect, and you probably will have to spend money on the rust issue. Not to put you off, but just so you have a realistic idea and know where to look.

Cheers.

Top tips thank you. Will bring a torch, mirror and maybe a magnet when I view. Hoping to get a decent one, and don't mind doing a bit of work. Used to doing stuff on land rovers so good to know where to look.

Thanks again.
