I wondered if anyone knew of these guys in Dubai, or had dealings with them and if they rated the experience? With new laws coming in for double cab pick ups, I’m thinking of getting a single cab Landcruiser. The prices are reasonable it would seem, but wondering if it bogus. Thank you in advance.

Just out of interest, what are the changes that are coming. Not that I'm after a brand new Hilux anytime soon, just wondered.

Morning Andy. As yet I’m not 100%, the accountant is looking into it and some on here may understand and know considerably more than I do. But, they are to be re-classified as ‘cars’ not commercial vehicles. As they all (I think) emit more than the highest VED tax rate of 255g per km, they will be charged £740 per year. Then if they are used by a business, or emplyees etc, company car tax will/could apply. That’s £300 per month up to £600 per month if a higher rate tax payer as I understand it. Plus, at the moment 100% per annum can be written off through the business but going forward only 18% will be possible. I may have this totally wrong as I say, very happy to be completely corrected by someone if they know different, and for some people it probably won’t affect them much. But funnily enough over the last few months my interest in how things will be taxed has been sharpened.

However, a single cab pick up will still retain all the benefits of commercial status. My worry is there isn’t a single cab on the market here in the UK that can legally tow 3.5 tonnes (at least not yet and you can be sure that VOSA will be stopping people to check) hence the search abroad. Which also has the added benefit of cheap road tax, no worries about emission zones in cities, etc. Getting them on RoRo isn’t difficult and import is fairly straightforward from some places. Just need the 3 seat version for the kids!

Hi Shayne. Yeh that’s the one I wasn’t sure about but it appears so. It’s a fairly horrible 1.9 engine though. Thinking a 4.5V8 diesel would be better, less stressed and probably last a lot longer.

Fact is if you want a good car then you have to buy an old one , Gov and manufacturers know it and are doing their level best to prevent it .

Exactly. My plan is to circumvent the nonsense by bringing one in. At least I can get a tough vehicle, decent engine, manual transmission easy to service and should go for years. I’m rather fed up like a lot of like minded people of the meddling for no possible good reason.

Thats why i posted the restored FJ40 in the 250 thread when your getting twice the car for half the money I can live without electric windows .

My advice on buying from Dubai is do not under any circumstances buy a used vehicle unless you can absolutely verify its history. (I found a mint 78 but was suspicious as it was worth more in Australia where it had come from when I finally got the VIN the rap sheet of damage was 4 pages…total loss) You’ll find all the dealers want cash (ie bank transfer) so you are 100% in their trust, I found an ex-pat who had used the dealer I bought from so that helped to verify their status

Thank you very much for that. I have a couple of contacts in Dubai and Japan as it turns out (I didn’t actually know, brother in law does) so would go that way. In any case might be a good excuse for a sunny winter few days. Wife is thrilled at the idea….erm

Also inherently suspicious as they are as Gr8yota says, cheaper than in Oz. Plus RHD which seems odd in a country that drives on the right. However, also nothing ventured nothing gained.

How much is a new Landcruiser in Japan ?

Land Cruiser Special Edition ZX "First Edition"7◎7,850,000
Land Cruiser Special Edition VX "First Edition"7,000,000
5,900,000

100 series with its wider body is a better option I reckon , less of a guilt trip chopping one up and even a tatty one has likely never done more than tow a trailer across a horse field . All the important stuff remains regardless of what carriage sits on top so start the project with the best you can find will save you money in the long run .
