Landcruiser sales Dubai

Thanks Shayne, it’s a good idea and certain something I had previously considered. There are benefits to getting a car already here etc. might even cost less than a nearly new 79.

Do you need a pickup? If you currently have a twin-cab you should be OK for tax until April 2029. Commercial LC250 should be here well before then.

Or you are likely to be able to remove the rear seats (including any mountings / weld up holes) and replace the glass in the rear windows with something solid, and continue to have commercial classification.

Very valid points. LC commercials are fine and good, but last week I had to pick up 2 dead and smelly sheep and drive them back from where they were grazing. Believe me you don’t want them in a ‘car’. Pick up is better for wet dirty dogs too and some of the kit I need to drag around. Looking at the legislation, the VAT situation is ok until 2029, it’s the other taxes that wernt announced but are on the gov website that are coming in next April that I was looking at.

Those links are specifically for where regs don’t align with VAT.

Not going to tell anyone they don’t need a pickup. I also get the dead sheep issue, but not frequently enough to buy a pickup; open a window / breathe through your mouth :) Its only an issue when they ooze past the tarp you’ve put down, then you have to live with it for a few weeks!

Absolutely. Although you usually don’t have a trailer attached on the off chance. And you think, how bad can it be just to chuck them in the back. And then about 30 seconds into your journey you remember.

3 weeks of perfume or half hour to go get it . Mind you a body bag doesn't take up much room and can be washed .

All amusing and good points. The reasoning of going down the single cab route was the possible tax implications etc, but also to be able to tow the mobile sheep folds or stock trailer, plus have the dogs in a dog box and quad bike on the pick up. Some sheep are over an hour away so going back and forth as little as possible is ideal. Kind of a one man 3 dog unit if you like. No brains between the 4 of us though.

On odour, I wonder if an ozone generator would help get it under control?

However, a single cab pick up will still retain all the benefits of commercial status. My worry is there isn’t a single cab on the market here in the UK that can legally tow 3.5 tonnes (at least not yet and you can be sure that VOSA will be stopping people to check) hence the search abroad.

Incidently, the 2024 (and I think back to 2022) single cab AWD Hilux can tow 3.5 tonnes. I have the same engine in my 150, and while I don't tow 3.5 tonnes, because that would be illegal, it took a twin deck of lambs to market last month over a couple of the highest mountain roads in South Wales. I wasn't overtaking anyone but it did the job fine.

Single cab D-Max and Rangers can pull 3.5 tonnes too. I'm guessing all the pick up manufacturers (which only really leaves VW and whatever Ssangyong call themselves now) will have one available pretty soon given the tax change - well if the people driving them really needed pickups and not just 4 seater VAT free vehicles  (absoultely not aimed at OP)
