Hi all,

Recently bought a 200 series with the 4.5 V8 diesel - 1VD-FTV.

According to the car papers issued in Czech Republic, the car is 195kW.
As far as I know there is no such engine, except the one equipped with the so-called "pre cleaners" on the air filter intake box but this one definitely doesn't have such.
The car also doesn't have a DPF filter underneath so I am curious why its 195kW and not the usual 210kW

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Shayne,

I am not from Czech Republic and I also don't know but many of the listed 200s for sale there are specified as 265ps or 195kW.

From the official literature of the engine is clear that there is really such an engine but equipped with "pre cleaner" system:

Which few pages later is described as follow:

So if someone can explain would be nice!

Toyota were probably forced to restrict airflow to meet some E.U legislation designed only to protect European car manufacturers from global competition and written into law on the pretext of save the planet hyperbole .

A fix kit exists though

This is for sure specifically for other Europe model, I don't think the ones in UK has pre-cleaner, I didn't see anything attached to the air filter box when I took it out.

I am trying to find out if my car is with somehow "reduced" power so to say.
I'd really like to remove any interventions software or not and bring it back up to 286hp.

For sure, there is nothing attached on the air filter as shown on the graphs above.

Nothing needs to be added to reduce airflow , a narrower pipe or dirty air filter will do that . When tuning diesel's allowing them to breathe easier is the number one consideration hence the popularity of oversized exhausts , K&N filters . Even intercoolers just help it breathe easier .

First you must work out exactly how power has been restricted , but it could be just software in which case a remap should be available ?

Quick google suggests to me exhaust DPF is the restriction .

There are 195kW/265hp variants without DPF, exactly like mine.
Early models were not fitted with the diesel particulate filter.
