Likes & Points

I'm not a user of the various social media platforms, so don't get the relevance of "likes" and "points" .

Do we get a prize when we reach a certain number of points? Indeed, how does one acquire points?

Can someone please explain what this means and its purpose on here?

It's not a competition with prizes or anything like that its just a way of showing you agree or appreciate a comment without having to reproduce the same comment .

I get that's what the 'likes' are for but what are the 'points'?
