Is the thermostat necessary in hot climes? While repairing a radiator leak at the mechanic here in Tanzania, he removed the thermostat saying it isn’t needed. Any drawback to the water flow not being regulated?

The temperature gauge while driving hard holds steady right at the mid point, but goes down quickly almost to “C” at low speeds or in traffic with lots of stop-go.

If the thermostat is going to be removed because a new one is unavailable remove the centre section and put the outer part back in. The thermostat does not only regulate coolant temperature it also slows coolant flow enough to ensure proper cooling to the cylinders at the back of the engine. Replace the thermostat when one becomes available.

Its the thermostat separates hot coolant from cold . Coolant just gets hotter until your engine gets warm enough to open the thermostat and swaps boiling coolant for the cold stuff in your radiator .

Running without one is better than running with a jammed shut stat but only to get you home . I like AUJ94's suggestion of slowing the flow but my reasoning is it would at least give the radiator a chance to do some cooling .
