My 1992 hdj80 has failed itv,(mot) on Spain. Rear brakes not sufficient force. She is lifted, she stands 3ft 3 inches from the ground to lower edge of wheel arch flares at the rear. She was fitted with BFG 35x12.5 KM2 tyres when I bought her. How can I check or adjust the load sensing valve.

Would it pass the test if you remove it then you have full braking all the time

Hi Steve, I had thought about that but if they saw it was removed I don't know what their reaction would be apart from instant failure. Plus, I would have to join the input and output pipe somehow. I also thought about removing the internal valve, thus achieving the same result, if that is possible. I have a 200 km drive to the testing station and then the same back to have the internal valve refitted plus bleeding the system again.

On mine, theres a sticker on the rear upper tailgate with the dimensions at varying body to axle height...
I think i have a photo somewhere if yours is missing or scrubbed off.
Let me have a look and get back to you.

Thanks. I just had a look at mine, nothing there. I have also found some videos on utube but it seems like trial and error setting it up correctly

Many thanks , I will have a look underneath tomorrow and set what it's set at.

Hi, I have just been underneath , the lsv is located inside left hand rear wheel area. I was going to spray the bolts with wd 40 to avoid breaking anything but, I can't for the life of me see where it can be adjusted. Any ideas or instructions from a workshop manual please.

Hi, well my Hdj80 finally passed yhe yhe Spanish mot. The brakes do not feel any different despite spending loads of money at Toyota main dealer. Still it passed, appently with the minimum force of 5% allowed on the rear. My suspicion is and always has been the servo. Is there a repair kit or an upgrade to the servo available.

Before you do anything, adjust your LSPV to fully open (lift the arm up as far as it will go) - just use a cable tie or something, go for a drive and see how the brakes feel.

LSPV is designed for standard height and 31 tyres. Whilst you can adjust for the lift so it works properly again, it cannot be adjusted for the additional force needed for larger tyres.

Don't some fit a drop bracket after a lift so LSV stays where it was before lift ?

Yeh exactly that. Solves problem of working properly but braking won’t be sufficient to offset bigger wheel size.

The other thing that messes with it is having springs with a higher weight carrying capacity and more weight in the vehicle. In this situation rear braking will be totally inadequate.
