Due to a Hard Drive failure I have lost a lot of images of my cruiser, so here are a few recent ones

Drying out back home, yes the ladder is too short, one of the things on my to do list

And now for those who are interested in mechanical P*RN.......

The intercooler is this.

And finally just to be perverse another one of the engine from a different angle.

Considering these vehicles were never designed with the prospect of having an intercooler fitted I am satisfied with the work done, obviously if you have a air con compressor fitted then the turbo to intercooler pipe is routed slightly differently, this is a bespoke installation and has had over a year of use now, Thirsty is my every day driver so I can say with confidence that this was a good thing
for her, has made her very usable in everyday traffic and the improvement in torque means she pulls very well.

So now the questions......
How much? I saw a thread saying £740 plus VAT, but I don't know if this included the fitting or not.
Fitted yourself or by Allisport?

Any issues at all with fuelling or was that sorted on installation in one go?

Hi Neil

It cost £700.00 installed by Allisport, they took her for a test drive before and after and the turbo boost was adjusted via a trick relief valve and the pump was fettled to take advantage of the intercoolers effect.

I have had no issues with the conversion aside from her ability to scare boy racers and landys when they cant get away or get overtaken, I have had Thirsty over the ton on german autobahns, without the roof rack, and that surprised a few people lol.

so anything other than a Sudanese desert scene looks novel to me
I am going to remove the panel [painting gone already] and the glass behind it [weight] and just looking at alternatives. I was hoping Julian was going to say this is a Milspec polyarbonate 13 gram kevlar-laced panel which makes the rear cargo area like Fort Knox.........

Two years and never had a problem, starts on the turn every time, outside temp never been a problem down to -16

I have heard of a window tint that is backed on that effectively armour plates your glass, glass can be broken or cracked but not pushed into the car.
Dont know if thats the kind of item you are looking for, it's expensive I belive.

Rob, I always put it down to the excellent engineering that MR T put into the 80, that and direct injection.

Don't get me wrong, that week of -16 or so mornings she certainly felt the cold, was stiff and difficult to get gears until she warmed up but the engine never missed a beat, I love older more agricultural diesels.

This winter we had 3-4 weeks -25 to -30 C (running neat antifreeze) and first flick (as usual) and she was away. As you said the g/box is a pig for the first 10 mins then goes as smooth as ever again.

Suppose the dual batteries help but no problems in 6 years (150,000 km) so far...
