Looking for an alternative to Portugal in 2015.

I was hoping for only 1 day travel, but realistically that may not be viable, so am thinking of ferry to Santander but much shorter drive in Spain.

Can anyone help with advice on that area of Spain above Portugal?

I heard most trails closed in the Picos
The whole area looked great on the vuelta espana bike race footage

Pete at Atlas mentioned the same thing, lots of closures in the Picos de Europa National Park so thats a no-go.

Maybe the Pyrenees would be better, in which case I might stick to Portugal but move round to Chaves - this is the Portuguese side of the Picos and is open.

Hi,
Several years go Spain closed its Park nationals to 4x4 vehicles. The Park Naturalles remain open to all vehicles. The old GR roads re still open but finding a map that relates is difficult, but we keep looking!
Somewhere I have a note of the website name for trials in Spain for 4x4s. I will search it out... now I've just got to remember where I put it... but when i find it I'll post it for you.

regards,
