the steering box has the adjusting nut on the top doesnt it. sort of wears in and if your steering is too free you can tighten it. maybe thats overtight or binding. its just below the driver side battery uk spec

Already pretty much on the limit there.

Probably you have thought of this and decided not to go this route but when I had PS Pump problems a few years ago on my 80 I bought a whole new pump from Milner’s for about £100/120 and just swapped it over. Been working fine. Quick and easy to do.
