I saw a post by the guys at WestCoast recently which suggested that the first 3 mods should be 1. Tyres 2. Suspension 3. Protection.

What are your thoughts?

Depends on what it is , that might fit for a fairly new vehicle but if you come into it from an older vehicle few won't benefit from overhauling the brakes . And for me if I was forced to remove all but one modification then it would have to be the oversized exhaust that stayed .

I’m thinking from an off-road/green lane perspective.
I’ve got decent AT tyres. Was considering a snorkel but that can wait (although they look great too!)
So for me its protection or suspension next.

Protection as in winch bumper and sliders or rust prevention ?

The first adds weight which is a genuine reason to upgrade suspension

I always tell people getting into the modifying game to search the web and find the end result you hope to achieve and copy to some extent . It tells you what works and will ultimately save you money .

I didn't copy anybody and I lost count how many sets of wheels and tyres I bought for my first truck because what looked right today looked daft when i added a suspension lift , and then the body lift made the next set look small . It kept evolving which meant spending again and again .

Next truck I couldn't actually find one to copy for what i had in mind but by then i had experience to guide me .

Underbody protection-replacement sump guard/transmission/fuel tank guard etc.
In doing the rust prevention work I discovered the original sump guard appears to be made from tin foil!
I’m erring on the side of suspension with a 2” lift but as a newbie the choice and terminology is bewildering.

I probably should know but can't remember what cruiser you got ?

Right well i don't know much about the 150 but I would expect a 2" lift is about the limit without getting into complicated and expensive options .

2 inches is generally considered to be just a straight swap for standard suspension whilst improving the look and perhaps adding room for slightly bigger tyres .

I reckon your trying to justify your priorities , we all guilty of that lol .

What rust prevention do you have in mind because its d.i.y then its easy to apply while you have suspension removed for a swap .

I’ve completed the rust work. Lots of elbow grease plus Jenolite and finished with Lanoguard.

So its just a whats next question then and you already know what your gonna do

Personally i don't like the look of a snorkel but i do appreciate its function , a pre-filter in dusty climates must be a godsend but for water crossings I think my truck would have to go deep enough to float . So for me its very low priority , I've not yet been anywhere I actually needed one .

Be warned modifying is addictive you know
