is the netral safty switch on the trans (if its an auto) working ok?
I have copied this post from another thread as I know this is what my issue is.

It's one of those jobs I have meant to do for a long time now but never got round to it as moving the auto trans leaver a little always sorted the problem. This morning instead of the usual quick jiggling of the leaver, it took ages to get it to work.

Does the switch need stripping and cleaning out or is there a simple way to bypass the switch somewhere?

I had this problem on my old green 80 and I seem to remember some contacts inside had corroded (EDITED: it was the springs behind the contacts that corroded on mine) . I don't think it was hard to take apart to diagnose if it just needs a clean, or replacement. I think I replaced mine. Funnily enough that gearbox ended up in my current 80 when it still belonged to the PO. I may even have posted about it but back when the 'forum' was an email list.

Thanks Jon

I will have a look at removing and stripping the switch down, it hasn't done bad lasting 33 years so far.
