I have seen some LR side steps i would like to modify to fit my truck but sellers are unable (or unwilling?) to tell me how long the steps are .

I would guess a swb defender or a 2 door disco steps should be similar in length to my swb collie but i would appreciate it if someone could post up the actual lengths .

I saw the thread title and thought the thread was going to read "Are you home yet after the weekend?"

No, we never made it that far ....

Shayne, you might be better asking a question on a selling site with these step on there. Just not sure enough LR owners are going to be looking in. If you mailed Craddocks for example I]m sure they'd respond.

I thought about doing the same a while ago. You can buy LR sliders so cheap. all I'd need to do would be weld them onto the outriggers that I make and it's be job done. Got to be worth a go

That's the idea Chris , the answer i get from email is "sorry we don't keep them in stock" so i guess they come in a fancy box they don't want to open ?

Been driving around all weekend with a tape measure on standby with no luck so i thought i would ask here and let Ratrace take some revenge for all the ribbing he gets .

Really? That's pretty poor isn't it. LR stuff in a fancy box. Who'd have thought. There's the Anglian off road weekend coming up, must be someone flogging that stuff there

I have the length measurement at work as we had a defender 90 in with rock sliders on and measured them to see if they would fit my 70.
Will post the measurement in the morning.

IIRC the wheelbase on a Disco 1 is 100", whilst the 90 is 94" (or so) - that may give you a starting point to go from...

A defender 90 has a 93" wheelbase. A 2 door disco is the same 100" as the 4 door.

A neighbour recently bought a SWB Defender 90 - I'll measure the side steps later today.

Bob.

I got 55 inches length of the box section of the rock sliders on the 90 defender
hope this helps Shane

Nice one Shaun it could have been made to measure for the swb collie

They caught my eye which makes me think the designer didn't know they would wind up on a lamedrover

No show for me this weekend i'm playing catch up while the weather allows it .

Shane,

As above, SWB 90 is 55" long and 40" between stock mounts (1 x tube at rear and 1 x flat flange bolting to back of bulkhead). Have taken a number of pics which I could WhatsApp to you if you'd like (fitted up to bare chassis being built).

If of any use, the mate with the 90 has a pair of new galvanised combined rock & tree sliders available. PM me if interested. He has also said he'd be prepared to sort a set to your spec / drawings / dimensions if you'd prefer not to chop the galvanised ones up. He's based in Stourport on Severn so not too far away.

Cheers.

Much appreciated Euan but i can make sliders myself i was just struggling to find a rubber tread plate which would allow me to keep everything black when i chanced upon defender steps and thought for that price i could just cut the brackets off and add my own .

Shayne,

Having re-read this thread I'm not sure what you are after :?.

I thought you were referring to these . . . .

But now I'm not so sure.

Width of step = 11".
Depth (to hinge) = 7.25"
Drop below the sill = 5".
Depth of step plus hanging bracket = 9"

It hangs from the chassis and has a support rod leading back to the chassis as well.

Not much use as a Rock Slider :laughing-rolling:.

Bob.

Oh Bob any excuse to get the tape measure out eh! i bet you were upset that it didn't allow you to play with the vernier scale

Doesn't help you much in this case, but I fitted 110 sliders to my 60 series and they are a perfect fit, and as you say, el cheapo! They are bolted to a U bracket welded to the chassis so tough as

Yeah that's what i'm gonna do Moggy if anything i'm cautious about making them stronger than the chassis because that would only end in tears .

built in breaking level is deffo a good thing. I didn't make mine or fit them but I guess the natural weak pont would be the bolt fixing it to the bracket, but in fairness, if you can hilift of them (which you can) I think it's unlikely to do any chassis damage, you'll lift the vehicle first
