Radiator change-tips sought

So tomorrow, I am going to attempt to change the radiator on my Africa 80.

Radiator was purchased last Sunday from Roughtrax and arrived Wednesday in France!

The car is a French spec 1994 VX Auto HDJ 80 so I have a cooling radiator for the auto box.

Now I am far from being a mechanic, but have the tools and enough to to make myself dangerous with a car.

I have the Haynes manual but surprisingly search on the various forums and search have brought surprisingly little extra info.

Any tips would be great, I can't seem to get an answer if I need to drain and remove the Autobox cooler for example.

Many thanks as always,

best ,

Mussy

Remove both batteries if you have two.
Remove both battery trays(makes rad bolt access a lot easier)
remove front grill.
Remove bolts holding fan shroud, move shroud back over fan and rest there.
Disconnect the transmission cooler lines some fluid will drip out, probably a cupful?
Remove nut and bolts holding radiator, beware these may snap!
Remove bottom hose.
Remove top hose.
Lift out radiator.

I don't think I have missed anything but it is early!

regards

Dave

Drain the coolant into a suitable receptacle?

Worth considering putting a new thermostat in whilst it's all in bits.

Good point Chris, I suggest an OE version, I had a (not so cheap) copy from Blue Print, gave me some weird temps, took out and fitted OE no issues since.
