This is my first crack at the 1HDT timing belt and water pump. I'll be working outside, so very much prefer to avoid removing the valve cover.
There are lots of great YouTube vids - several of which use an impact gun to remove cam pulley, with a screw driver wedged in to stop the pulley moving. Seems pretty fool proof for removal. But almost certainly movement when re-torque the cam pulley. From what I have seen, most just go a quarter turn anti-clockwise, and then clockwise to re-align timing mark if it moves.
Do most folks just take the shortcut and rattle gun, or follow the FSM and remove the valve cover? I did have a quick search on several forums, but sorry if this is covered elsewhere.
Thanks in advance!
