Am I being too picky questioning why the use of heavy, hard, and unforgiving leaf springs on the back?

I thought these days, coil springs had developed to be reliable and robust enough for harsh terrain (JMHO).

The first leaf-sprung pick-up I ever drove (Nissan) was my last... the unladen handling was uuuugh!

I have to agree with you there unladened they are too hard but once i sort out where everything is going the back will carry all my tools and recovery gear and should settle down quite nicely
