Do i need a special primer if i want to re-paint the plastic front grill ??

Yes, if you take it back to bare plastic. But if you just "flat" the paint then no.

great .... so i can just put a key into it with some wire wool then spray over it

You don't need to use the acid etch primer.

but it didn't look like that in the beginning though did it we want to keep it shiney
