Hi

So I am looking at exploring Turkey along with Georgia, Possible.

Hoping to start out April 2025.

I would be grateful for anyone's experience to traveling to Georgia from Turkey. Is it possible, were you able to get truck insurance in the UK, of is it a simular situation like Marocco where you have to get insureance there.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Gary

Yes, grant and sarah moved to Georgia after falling in love with the place. Hopefully he'll get an email now he's tagged

Without doubt one of the best countries on earth to visit, Georgia that is. It’s also the maddest driving I think I’ve ever been party to, and that list is quite long. Incredibly friendly, scenery quite extraordinary. We will be going back maybe next year to visit.

I just discovered a YouTuber OffRoadProwler - [Leaving Land Cruiser Club]. It very much like the kinda place I like to visit.

I have a few questions. Did you insure you truck in the UK? When is the best time of year to explore?

Thanks
G.

Sorry Garry, we didn’t drive we flew in to see friends living there and rented a car. Judging by the state of some of the cars there I would say buy insurance at the border like other countries. And like other places, cross your fingers you don’t need it! It’s probably worth slightly less than the piece of paper it’s on, so it might be handy to have some cash about you in case of any issues. These are what I would do if I was driving my own vehicle there, but also just be aware of your surroundings. Sorry not to be of any other help really.

Hi

No worries, thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the case concerning the insurance. According to research, Sept to end of Nov is a good time to visit.

Insurance for Geogia is bought at the border, or online (3rd party), best to avoid the main crossing on the black sea coast during the busy season.

If you're going that far, its worth taking a side trip into Armenia for a few days.

Its all very drivable, theres plenty off offroad available and the scenery is amazing, though personally I prefer the Russian side of the Caucusus mountains

Hi

Thank you. I have added it to my route.

Is the insurance situation for Armenia the same as Georgia?

If you can't get hold of Grant pm me your phone number and I will pass it on. He does offer some facilities for overlanders to stay etc.

Very same, the few times ive driven to Armenia, ive always bought at a booth on the border. Thouhg I've never had it checked there. In georgia, the police are very active at checking for insurance on foreign registered cars
