For those of us that do not have a spare charged 12v battery lying around is there a device that would cover my needs.
When it comes to bench testing electrical goods is there a device (not sure what it would be called) that plugs into the mains and allows you to adjust the output from say 0 to 24v and then has 2 crocodile clips on It to give you power to where you need it.

I would find this so handy for testing thinks on the bench like solenoids or the like.

Another alternative is to get a C-TEK or similar smart charger that has a 'supply' function.

Cheers

We have loads of these at work, they have a 500mA 5v and 12v output as well as adjustable 0-30v at 2.5A. They are light, compact and cheap unlike some DC PSUs so perfect for bench testing electronics. Only issue with this unit is the voltage control is a little sensitive.
