video format & size

I wish to post a trip report that includes a couple of videos.

What format should the videos be in (avi, mpeg, etc) and what is the maximum size allowed?

I do not want to You Tube these but merely post them to this forum.

Not particularly helpful this but I could never figure out how to get them on here after trying a few times hence me using you tube and posting the link.
