What is a "jeep"

Pretty common over here for every 4x4 to be called a jeep. I don't mind, but get annoyed when people comment about me driving a Land Rover.... It's neither a) rusty, b) designed in 1942 or c) broken down... They look bemused when I correct them.

We do also have the term 'Jerusalem Jeep'.... But that's a bit different.....
