You know it's bad when your religion is listed under "medical problems."

It's listed there because they don't accept Blood Transfusions; I can't remember the exact reasoning, but it solves any problems later on.

I think there may be some exemptions, but they have to be in a pretty dire state to need for the exemptions to apply. A routine op where they might do a top up wouldn't be one of those situations IIRC.

yes, JWs do not accept blood transfusions as well as specific other treatments ...
it is considerate (or maybe to prevent legal actions) that the form has that line on it.

It seems odd though as right above it mentions blood transfusions which I thought would cover JW's?

might be to determine and record whether the individual is actually a JW or not. more and more people i have talked to have refused blood for medical side effect reasons.

I know in Aus they don't want our blood or organs; in fact anyone who has lived in the UK in a specified period can not be a donor on account of CJD.

Its not listed because its a medical problem its listed because it is a legal one , effing wierdo's cannot be revived should their heart stop . They will let thier kids die for no reason rather than let the hospital remove the appendix (for example) because GOD put the appendix in so they believe it is a sin to remove them !

Thankfully when forewarned hospitals can , when time allows , get around this stupidity with a court order .

actually Shayne, you need to do the research before spouting off.
i have listened to the same uneducated ramblings in the past.

Is it because they were told "thou shall not to take the blood of another man".... but the dopey fools got a bit confused and interpreted it quite literally

There was another case recently in the news. Where by a young Jehovahs witness mother (in her 20's) refused a blood transfusion, which ultimately would have saved her life.

She died and now 2 little kids dont have a mother and no doubt the family are in pieces.

Personally I think their almost as insane as the people who believe blowing them selves up and killing innocent people will result in 59 virgins in paradise. :icon-rolleyes:

I believe this world would be a much better place without any religion. :icon-smile:

Spot on Ben,

But I want the full quota of 70 virgins, not some short thrift of 59.
Are you planning the other 11?:icon-smile::icon-smile:

Agree, religion is the root of all evil,
Probably seen in the olden days as mass "do as your told" or else, sort of stuff.

Ban it I say.

Gra.

oh boy - this could get interesting....to join or not to join in that is the question....

Ben,
you don't know for a fact that she would have lived or still died after the transfusion. the media and doctors have been known for their glorifying the JW cases.
30 some years again, the doctor for a JW family insisted that their new born girl have a blood transfusion or she would die within a week. the parents took the young girl into hiding. it was all over the news how the parents were killing the kid and would be charged with manslaughter when the girl passed.
they were in hiding for over a week while child care and the authorities tried to find them. a lawyer was brought in and no transfusion was administered. the girl is now in her 30s raising her own family.
did the doctors offer blood expanders in your case? saline solution? what was the reason given for the need of the transfusion? do you know the whole story or just the media side of it?

i agree, the world would be a much better place with NO religion trying to control it. the main reason i left being part of it. religion has caused so much family strife, war, bloodshed, lies ... it should be banned.

no, i don't believe they are one step above or below extremists. just because the public in general doesn't accept difference, doesn't make it wrong.

If there is a god , and i don't believe there is , he/she/it is responsible for all scientific and medical discoveries justy as he is responsible for earth wind and fire . How can they believe in god then not believe god gave us the power to heal and save lifes ?

I personally believe religion (whatever kind) is a good thing if it gives someone who is otherwise missing it the strength to endure . Where it goes wrong is when one person tries to push another into the same belief .
If you believe the plastic frog on your dashboard will keep you safe and so gives you the confidence to ford the river or something then good for you but i dont need one thank you .

The Lord and the Devil exist within us not in some other world . Each and every one of us is capable of extreme good or extreme evil . Religion was simply a way to control the masses before law became universal , no king could enforce the law in every corner of his kingdom so instead they led people to believe they will burn in eternity if they don't behave .

Incidentally when law did become universal and the church lost much of its power lawyers were born . Lawyers were simply church men who studied laws (which were simply the kings word) to find contradictions then used them to manipulate the king to get what they wanted .

That should rattle a few cages :eusa-naughty::lol:

Nicely put Shayne, I can hear the cages rattling from here.

faith, not religion, gives people that need it strength.
religion is a control
faith is strength

My mates wife is called Faith.
It must work because he's always looking at her and saying quietly "Give me strength...."
