Hi I'm Richard, from the UAE.
I've just bought a 2001 V8 VX with a 50th anniversary body as a project.

It joins my eclectic collection of a SWB Pajero (setup for desert drives), Nissan Pathfinder R51 and my wife's 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ.

We are offroad, one way or another every weekend. Leading convoys, camping or overlanding.

The plan for the LC ... ground up restoration to become the ultimate long range journey traveller.

I am sure i will be asking for endless ad ice on what to and not to do (like do a ground up resto)

More to follow

Welcome to the forum, feel free to share some pictures of your fleet!

I presume with your climate the VX will be more of a mechanical and cosmetic resto rather than needing any rust treatment

need some pictures.
Jon hunting in UAE/GCC at the moment

So ... the shakedown has, as expected, provided a lengthy list of consumables that need replacement. Track end rods, bushes, engine mounts, fluids and belts, along with a few seals and the power steering pump.

The chassis, engine and gearbox, however, which could have been big ticket items are all sound.

The work starts next week. I'd originally thought it would need an off body respray, but on further inspection, I'll let the detailers have a go at polishing out the body and lights, and focus instead on the interior. I'm vacillating over putting in a leather interior. With the temperature we have here, the cloth seats seem to make more sense ... but don't look great.

Picking up a full 2nd hand LX470 interior is quite easy here.

And a 2" lift ...
