Who is doing what maintenance today?

Is your water pump the two part one with the backing plate?
Yes, it came off clean as a whistle and the new one slid in perfectly, the old gasket was still in one piece leaving no trace of gasket to clean off the face, obviously the new one came with the same design of gasket, sort of rubberised coating on a springy metal form.
Only bought the main pump, didn't get the rear section, much more involved job to change anyway.

Getting the new auxilliary belt on reqd me finding my extra pair of hands in the form of the Mrs, had to enlist her to keep pressure on the tensioner release whilst i did a fair impression of an octopus trying to keep the belt on track on all those pulleys, once again reminded me that you would not want be trying to fit said belt on the hard shoulder of a busy motorway by torchlight, hence new belt now.

Did 5K engine oil change. However I did an error.

I emptied old oil and fitted sump plug back.
Took off oil filter, wiped the housing and fitted new filter.
While filling new engine oil, by mistake I added 50-100 ml AHC fluid. I immediately realised and stopped that. I then added 1 litre engine oil and drained it.
Please advise if this will damage the engine?
I am planning to add remaining 8-9 litres engine oil, drive to Toyota, buy another 10 litres engine oil and do another oil full oil change. Will this help?
Or just fill full 8 litres and drain it full without driving?

I think the first option proposed will be fine. Flushing it out is key and you can only do this effectively by running the engine.

Think filling and immediately draining all 8l will just waste it without ensuring you have got it all diluted.

Thank you. Since I added 1 litre engine oil and drained it out immediately, some of that AHC might be come out. I added new engine oil 9 litres. I ll buy another 10 litres and drain again after the short drive to Toyota dealer

I think that'll be fine, I'm not an oil scientist but i can't see a tiny trace of it flushed out after a handful of km causing any issues.

Thank you Both. I am relieved now. Will take a nap.
Will take this opportunity and do another short distance oil change as soon as I get engine oil.

I'd probably swear a bit but it wouldn't bother me unduly. Even if you left it in, 100ml in a 8L fill is only 1.25% and is obviously much less than that if you drained it immediately, plus hydraulic oil does have some lubrication properties. It's not as if you've put old chip fat in the sump.

And I’d be buying my oil from somewhere like Opie Oils where it’s cheaper and doesn’t come in the same can as the AHC fluid allowing to get (more) easily confused

Thanks Gary, I am now dropping the idea of buying from Toyota. It costs around 50£ for 5 litre. Opie oil doesn’t have 20ltr of exact spec buy Tayna batteries has NAPA oil in same spec.

Did anyone use this below company Pyemotor oil based in Lancashire? Since it’s so cheap compared to Toyota and Tayna, i doubt if it’s counterfeit and went with NAPA. If anyone used or knows this company and if it’s genuine one, I ll just order one from them too.

Big push over two days to get jobs done. Some I’ve had the parts for 18 months just not got round to it!

Full service - all fluids and filters.

Finally got round to removing ACSD and fitted blanking plate.

Replaced kickdown cable and fitted new solenoids. Both surprisingly easily jobs! Annoyingly two of the transmission sump bolts snapped and the sump bung threads aren’t great. New pan and bolts ordered from Amayama.

New radiator, fan shroud and AC condenser fitted.

New brake pads fitted but found front disc badly grooved. New discs ordered from roughtrax. Also all the shims, pins, bolts and sleeves very tired so all new ordered from Amayama.

Fitted all new body mounts a few months back.

Almost there….

Did oil change again today after last week's mistake. I drove 200 miles between these two oil changes. Its difficult to see oil level if oil is too clean. I initially added more, then drained about 900 ml to get the level correct. Finally had to go for a drive, hoping it will turn dark but didnt. Took a pic, zoomed it and saw the oil level on laptop :anguished:. It took 4 hours to complete this whole process. Wish they made oil with some dye in it.

to make life easy.

I roughened the bottom of the dipstick with some emery paper so it holds more oil and makes it easier to see the level with new oil.

Our engines drain really well hence not easy to see the level and the oil stays clean for a long time, family BMW compact Diesel was the worse for draining, within seconds the dipstick looked like the oil had never been changed.
My 20 year old 120 goes nearly 1000 miles before the oil turns black, i leave it to drain for hours and sometimes overnight in order to inspect the oil pick, that helps.
