I have this 2008 Land cruiser, and the 4lo light is blinking, together with the check engine light ON. I checked the fuses, are ok. If I remove the battery for few minutes, the 4lo and check engine lights are gone, 4Lo is working perfect, difflock same. All working good. But after 2/3 days, when I start the engine in the morning, the lights are back, and 4lo not working.
Can someone please tell me approximately where to search for the problem?

I have replaced Oxygen sensor and Computer unit. but no difference

anyone had similar problem and managed to fix it

Seeing as you have a check engine light, maybe its got a code stored that can help?

Hi Nathan, I just bought a 2008 200 series v8 petrol and had the same 4lo and check engine light issues. How did you resolve it? Did you manage to figure out what was wrong? Many thanks and happy holidays, Dimitri

To be honest if you have a check engine light you need to read the codes. There's loads of reasons it could be on, and without the codes you're just guessing and throwing potentially expensive parts at it and maybe wasting your time

Thanks Karl. Yes, I should have mentioned that my mechanic and I looked through the codes, thought we resolved the issue and then just like Nathan it reappeared 3 days later when I was driving on the highway in hi4. We dropped the transfer box and greased the gears as the codes indicated there was an issue with engagement in the transfer box, but wondered what Nathan did so I can both read the codes and troubleshoot the next time it happens.
I am also not a fan of throwing expensive parts at a problem so no expensive anything has gone into getting it to work so far just reading fault codes as well as troubleshooting.
Nathan, keen to hear what the underlying issue was for you/what codes you had too/what you had to resolve?

That was over a year ago he posted mate, and made no other posts regarding this with a solution or not.
We get this all the time.
Good luck with your problem though.

Thanks mate. Shame - best when it’s a good community of frequent users. I’m a converted landy guy and I used to have great chats on that forum so hoping to find the same here for my ‘new’ (2009) wheels…

Same problem although my car is the 200 series from 2009 4.5 D4D V8. The lights also started today when i start the engine in the morning despite i do not select the 4Lo option for ages!
Did anyone reach a solution?

This is classic battery problem, batteries are probably on the way out and need replacing.

Clean battery terminals and alternators connections .

Hi, I have read all the above comments and none give an answer but one is close.
I just purchased a 2008 GXL 4.5 tti Landcruiser, I drove it home and the next morning drove 5 kl from home, so a total of 34klm and the engine warning light along with 4lo and centre diff light
came on as well as locking into 4x4. So I rand the dealer who had it towed back to their yard, was in Toyota Sutherland for 7 days before they rang for me to pick it up. On arrival there they tell me it was a low battery issue and charged the battery and all's good, they put 79klm on it while they had it ( i wasn't happy about that). So I droce ot home and 15klm later the engine and 4lo and center diff lock started flashing. I immediately went to my auto electrician, who after 35 minutes said, look here, you have a bad earth on the left battery and we think its up under the intercooler, cant fix it today as its Easter and were closed till Monday after Anzac day. then showed me, it has 13.9v from terminal to engine if you earth it there but positive to negative there is zero volts.
I then rang the dealer who wants me to bring it back so their guy can have a look and try and fix it, not happy but will comply, I've found while waiting that if I charge the battery within 80 klm then it all works fine without issues, meanwhile my Auto electrician recons the previous owned (2nd owner by log books) has been chasing the issue for a while and probably sold it as they couldn't fix it The have replaced the two wiring harnesses from both batterie, new starter motor and new alternator, so once its fixed lucky me.

I will return to this post when the issue is resolved with what was actually wrong and the cost to fix it, plus my sparky said he has a hack that increases the charge output to the twin battery system so ill report on that also.

Hears hoeing
Mark
