    Loosing coolant

Hadn't thought to look at the rear heater. Not exactly needed here in the tropics. I borrowed a mates pressure tester and pumped the system up to 15psi and only noticed a very slow pressure loss. Like 1psi in 10 minutes. I would put that down to the tester connections rather than the system...

    Loosing coolant

Damn! Hope it's not so serious. Got some advice today. Tie a plastic bag to the overflow pipe and go for a drive and see if coolant is actually passing the rad cap. eliminate one thing at a time I suppose.

    Loosing coolant

Hi All, My 1HZ has been loosing up to 1 liter of coolant per trip/day. I noticed some staining on the rad from the plastic header so pulled the rad and stripped and cleaned the header gasket etc. All together and no more leaks there, but...engine is still loosing coolant. There are no traces of...

    Minimalist rear bumpers

Somewhere I've seen pics of some very neat and tidy rear bumpers that don't stick a yard out behind the car. Of course now I can't find any in the search. Thinking of just a two pipe under-body with a tow hitch. No need for samson size wheel carriers etc. Any and all pics welcome. :)

36410-60050 Actuator Assy, Transfer Shift, Toyota

Hi All, I've been trying to track down an actuator locally but the one;s I have found are U/S. Does anyone have one spare they are willing to part with, I can't afford the many dollars being asked for new. Cheers Steve

    Speedo works, trip counters not

Thanks, the article is certainly helpful. I got as far as stripping out the gauge but was very wary about removing the pointer, s stopped there. I'll try again soon.

    Speedo works, trip counters not

Hi All, Mama's car just got back from the panel-beaters and during a test run I noticed the KM counters don't turn although the speedo reads just fine. I stripped out the meters and I see that the speedo gets an electronic input, no speedo cable. I assume there is some motor driven doohickey...

    Testing the 4WD

Hope all safe in these trying times. So now that mud season is in full swing, I had occassion..read many.. to test out the cdl fix. All good. Another issue has arisen, the transfer box jumps out of Low when under stress, like going downhill with your foot off the throttle. Anything on the...

    Testing the 4WD

Hi All, Again with the slow answer, my personal LC has rear/2-wheel drive as permanent and onle engages the front when the CDL is activated, either by pushing the button or engaging low range. Not many happy options otherwise. Hence the need for free-wheel hubs to stop the front prop and...

    Testing the 4WD

So leading on from the above post, does anyone now what "other" manufacturers free-wheel hubs will fit the old girl? Pajero's seem to be plenty on the market, but Toyota/Aisan not so.

    Testing the 4WD

Again, it's been a while. So at the end of July after a full mud season with no 4x4 and several tows later I got under the car. Seems there have been some "modifications" done by the PO. The transfer case currently mounted is for the part-time 4wd version with the short extension housing to the...

    Quick question reguarding injector seals

Hi, resurrecting an old thread. Lexie, can you confirm the part number for those injector pipe seals? Is it 23681-17010. My guys did some head work and had the pump and injectors serviced and these seals have gone missing. Cheers Steve

"Marker" lights, how are they supposed to work?

Thanks Dave, So mama's is correct, it's mine that aren't. I think I'll hook them into the indicator system and have them flash in sync with them. Cheers Steve

    Headlights / brights not working

You might also want to check the relays in the driver side footwell. I had something similar to that happen and found a main relay burnt on the mounting board. I might have posted about it too.

"Marker" lights, how are they supposed to work?

We have two cruisers in the family, another two on the projects. Was doing a bit of maintenance, checking lamps etc and had to change the front right side light or marker lamp on my HDJ81. I see it has a dual filament lamp but i could only ever get one filament to light up, and that was with...

    Testing the 4WD

So it's getting close to mud season and I really need to nip off some time to sort out the 4WD. I see in the manual there are various options of transfer case coupled to transmission according to the engine mounted. I have tried to find the codes stamped on the casings but just can't find them...

    Testing the 4WD

Got around to actually checking the 4x4 yesterday by driving into some slippery stuff. Seems only the back diff was under power as it slid all over the place with no help coming from the front. Does that mean that I have to engage center diff to get front traction? That's not the way it works in...

    Testing the 4WD

Hi All, Been a while since my last post. Still have my original HZJ 81 and have recently supplemented that with another HZJ 81, but this with a turbo. Was checking the undercarriage and the general workings and thought to check whether the 4WD works. So I jacked up the front right and left...

Thanks SC, I made a plan with what I have. Anything more requires planning, even getting spade lugs can be a challenge here. My next trip south I'll check for alternative lighting. Might just go for a higher amperage relay in the meantime. I would like to separate the rear lights from this...

I swapped out the Horn relay for the Lights as it was in better condition and also gets used less. I'll order another. You must have read my mind, and all of the above is correct! I soldered the board and reinstalled, all good for a minute, then lights off. Again I hear a sizzling sound.
