Dexter, my wife's 80-Build thread and Vortec swap

Wiring a Vortec is easy, right............................... This is not even the entire engine harness. Boxing it up and sending it off to be paired down and re programed

Dexter, my wife's 80-Build thread and Vortec swap

I took a stock radiator down to Griffin Radiator to have them build me a radiator that is a direct fit. I had them swap the filler neck and upper tube to work with the LSX series motors and also add a steam port. This radiator is now available at Griffin in either stock form or LSX...

Dexter, my wife's 80-Build thread and Vortec swap

Heather has driven it around for about 18 months without a front bumper so it was time to get one on there. I looked around at bumpers and found that it would be about $1K plus shipping, I decided to make one myself. Criteria was simple, plate style, use materials on hand and modular in design...

Dexter, my wife's 80-Build thread and Vortec swap

It all started about 18 months ago when I bought a 1995 80 series with a "blown motor". $750.00 for a future swap. I drove it on the trailer with the radiator leaking badly. I sold the ugly TJM bumper for $250.00 so I had a 95, locked 80 for $500.00 and a round trip to Asheville, cool! Heather...

How did you decide? (Series 60 vs 80)

That is the long term plan. Lots involved including cutting the frame to get the wheel base right to fit in the fenders correct. I have to get my wife's 80 built for off road this summer, it is stock now. I also have a 92 80, complete frame off with Vortec swap started and I work on this one...

    5.3L GM Vortec/ 4L65E swap into 88 FJ62

The NV4500 is either a Chevy or Dodge unit. Advanced adapters has everything you need too do the swap excluding clutch pedal and master cylinder. I believe their adapter requires using a 4WD version. Far more automatics are used in swaps here than the NV4500.

How did you decide? (Series 60 vs 80)

I am with Iwan in that I like the 142, 62 series rather than 60. I am thinking 62 on 80 chassis with Vortec swap 5.3L/NV4500/60 series split case/manual hubs up front. Maybe one day when I am not working on customer rigs .....

Buying an 80 - deal breakers

I just read a bit of this thread, what a difference the criteria here in the states. We have no choice within a year model on engine trans or T-case and no diesels or manuals. my 80 series holy grail is a "poverty package". NO sunroof, fender flares or split rear windows. I do not mind the...

    5.3L GM Vortec/ 4L65E swap into 88 FJ62

Thanks for the compliments. I've not touched anything on the 80 in a little bit. The 62 project just kept growing as it went and sucked up all my shop time. The 80 is back up to the top of the heap, at least for a little while as I am expecting other projects in Jan.

    The world has gone mad

Those of us who are sane and understand and keep firearms in this country do it for general one reason, as you stated, the bad guys carry firearms. It is simply a matter of fact. Our gun culture has deep roots and can be traced back to the beginnings of this country. It all started with all...

    The world has gone mad

well, I was hoping that the wheel cylinder had not been leaking long and this would be a quick job of just swapping it out. No such luck. It had been leaking a while, between fluid, dirt and break dust there was a paste all over everything. Just needed a little love.

Thanks Clive :icon-biggrin: I am right there with you. I am a lucky guy in that I get to do something I love to earn my living. I grew up in the muscle car era here in the states and we all chased 1/1 HP to CI as the holy grail, and spend a bunch of money doing it. I can buy a used Chevy Gen...

The Vortec swap and Cummins 4BT diesel swap are the two most popular swaps here in the states. I am personally not a diesel fan, unless it is in a dually tow rig that works for a living. But different strokes for different folks
