    CANbus theft.

Yeah they're good there - they're based about 2 minutes from where I live. Had a really long chat with them in their office. It's a really small team, but most of their other finders are actually off duty police officers themselves. He also confirmed that they have many new videos ready to be...

    CANbus theft.

To be honest, I probably won't bother since I have the ghost now and it seems like Toyota are charging £150-300 to fit theirs. But heres the link:

Auto gear selector clunk from P to R

My gear selector feels somewhat stiff and there's a bit of a clunky when I shift out of P. Once out of P (R-N-D) everything feels smooth. I'm pretty sure it feels and sounds like it's coming from the gear selector rather than the transmission - almost feels like it's catching on something...

    Insurance

I've tried all the big comparison sites. Insurance does fluctuate a lot day to day, so I'm just hoping maybe in a week there will be some sensible quotes... The fact that three weeks ago it was half the price, I'm hopeful that it is just a temporary hike in prices - I've done all the usual...

    Insurance

I tried direct line and just got a "Sorry, we are unable to provide a quote right now". I don't really understand. In just three weeks, I've gone from £600 to being practically uninsurable! Will give MSE a go thanks

    Insurance

Insurance is driving me mad. Bought my Landcruiser two months before my current policy expired, so I just added it to my existing policy to preserve the NCB. But to make sure the insurance wouldn't be too outrageous, I got a quote just over two weeks from comparethemarket before I bought my...

Teardown and Complete Rebuild of a 500k+km 200 series

Feels a bit like triggers broom. But very nice! In some ways I almost wonder if it might actually be better than a brand new vehicle? I doubt the factory put as much care and attention in to the assembly.

    Hello from Worcestershire

Interesting you say that actually, when I was at my local dealership looking at a Hilux initially - I noticed the 250 on the forecourt. I asked about it, and they also said something along the lines of "I don't know why we have it, we're not allowed to sell it". I cannot for the life of me...

@Raj you're near me aren't you? Would you mind if I meet up with you to have a go with this for some beer tokens? I want to check for errors on my 150, but mainly to fiddle with some settings hopefully which I can't access without the original head unit (for example changing the TPM from bar...

    New Ford Capri...

In their defence, it is SO expensive to drive now at 17-25, one can hardly blame them. I'm barely in to my 30s, and when I was 17 I couldn't afford to drive a car, so I got a motorbike. If it wasn't for that, I probably wouldn't have become an avid motorcyclist. When I was 18, I could just...

Good Driving Practices. Do they really matter

Hmm that's a good point. This is actually only my second automatic car I've had. My last one had an auto brake hold feature so I didn't actually have to shift to neutral, it would hold it in drive on the brake automatically. Which had the same effect but without having to shift to neutral.

Good Driving Practices. Do they really matter

Other miscellaneous driving practices while we're on the topic: While waiting to turn across incoming traffic, keeping the wheel straight in case so if you're ready ended, you are shunted straight rather than in to incoming traffic. When parking on a very steep hill, turning the wheel in to...

    Rustproofing, updating methods and products.

From what I've read, a few people argue to just keep it clean and not treat at all. And there are plenty of people who rate smearing in engine oil (essentially the same as smothering in grease I imagine). Also some who just regularly apply ACF-50. But by far the most commonly recommended...

Good Driving Practices. Do they really matter

Your handbrake reasoning is sound - it is indeed a something that shouldn't in my opinion be used to hold the car stationary as it can lead to failure . I don't think applying the handbrake when in neutral/drive makes too much difference as the hand brake will still prevent the car from exerting...

Good Driving Practices. Do they really matter

The engine warm up is an interesting one. There's also a contradictory opinion that it's actually better for the engine to be driven straight away, as then the oil warms up quicker and provides better lubrication quicker provided you're gentle with it until it's warmed up. Versus idling with no...

    Rustproofing, updating methods and products.

So worth also mentioning, I've used ACF50 on my motorbikes for years, so I do also have a big bottle of that for spraying on battery terminals, wiring, bolts, and anything else like that. The guy I booked in with actually uses it as a rust treatment as well due to its ability to really...

    CANbus theft.

I'm seriously debating adding a Ghost immobiliser. It attaches to the CAN and prevents start, even with the key present until a code is entered using the existing buttons within the car (volume up, volume down, window up etc.) Only thing holding me back - I've heard rare cases where this can...

My 2019 150 Icon has that same Joying unit. Seems pretty good, although I only just got it so too early to tell, however Joying is definitely one of the recommended Chinese android unit brands. I'm Cameron, just bought a 150 (current shape) with a little over 70k miles on it - and hopefully not too much rust! I went with the Icon trim level to avoid the air suspension and other extras I will hardly ever use and couldn't justify paying for. I'm based in Hampshire. Mods wise, it just...
