120 spec differences, colour combinations and audio

My comment relates to market values rather than the trucks themselves , right now there is a half price alternative but its becoming harder to find at a reasonable mileage and pretty soon dealers will want their 90's gone to make space for .... 120's perhaps , there's certainly no shortage of used 120's available .

As has been said, lots of 120's about, including one very cheap one near me which is cheap for a reason or two.
We're trying in Chez JB to attack this from another angle now - ie will we ever use it to do the Italy run, and realistically how often will it go up north?
Madam quite likes the look of an E Class estate which would batter any LC's chances of going to Italia - especially at 45mpg+.
So with that in mind I may reduce budget quite a bit and concentrate on getting the "right" truck - whether it be a 120 or a 100. To be fair the thought of spending £10/12k on something to chuck tools and scruffy blokes in was baulking in my mind quite a bit.
Hmmmm conundrums.
Not helped by my annoyance of not having a new motor already - I have the joy of 700 miles round trip in the L200 from tomorrow for a funeral - Madam JB "needs" the Galaxy, apparently...

Sometimes you should ignore a ringing phone.
Halfway enroute to Newcastle my good pal called (hands free!), we had a chat about cars as usual. Mentioned my plan/confusion.
"What about my Colorado?".
Told him i'd been there done that.
" not a d4d you havent, theyre so much better than a td"

B*gger. Another curve ball. Known car, hes had 7 yrs, low miles, he is all things car (specialises in g wagen resto). But a gx not vx so cloth, light interior, prev cat c. Cheapish.
No further fwd here.
Need to look/drive it plus a 120 plus a 100 methinks.

338 miles in a bouncy L200 was joyful!! Only another 338 to go on friday.....

Guys - the search continues. Have looked at a couple of dog 120's and have pretty much discounted a 90.
Question - it's likely (unless I can do some arm twisting) that my "new" LC won't be used for the Italy trip (unless we do two in which case all bets are off).
How does the v6 petrol stack up against the d4d ? I do like my performance a bit.....it will likely do circa 7k miles a year, 90% of which will be local. Back in '04 we bought a new RX300 and to be fair it was a wonderful 3l v6 engine and completely competent.

Rare, super duper smooth and powerful. In the real world use 30% more fuel and should be cheaper to buy.

Thats certainly in my thinking at the mo Andy - they're 15-30% cheaper to buy it seems. Only averaging 20.1mpg out of the L200 so I am already propping up a small oil -rich dictatorship on fuel purchase as it is, and that drives rubbish !!!!

I've only driven a petrol 120 once. But it was a great experience. They are very smooth and quiet and based on what the folks out in Australia claim - the petrol engine lasts just as well as the diesel does.

regards,

Well that didn't got to plan......
My brother looked at "the one" today for me as it was miles away. Nice colour, right model, mileage, spec, price, history.
Apparently quite poor underneath. IIRC it was an 05 or 06. He reckoned it wasnt a keeper unless I wanted to be welding around the body mounts and the chassis rails etc.
Moving on....

Yep thats what the majority are like, 10 years of exposure to grit blasting, salt and water don't do poorly painted components any favours. the 42K miler I looked at was poorer than I was prepared to accept at the price underneath.

I'm doing quite a lot of remedial rust removal and treatment under my Collie before I start to use it in order to slow the rate of corrosion down.

It does seem to be the case with the underside of the newer cruisers. Be it that the roads are salted during the winter months. To me it seems that Toyota don't take as much pride in factory underbody seal and protection that appears to be better on later models.

Do they wish for the vehicle to have a shorter life? So you return to the showroom and purchase another. . Just my thoughts. .

Mad isn't it?
But I guess it's all part of the "disposability" of things that 20 years ago you'd never have dreamt of throwing away.
I likely have a 90 comin to me as part payment of a debt, it doesn't work for me as what I want. However, it's an R plate, and it looked fairly decent underneath, not a thought in hell of worrying about welding etc, perhaps a good wire brush/hot wash off then waxoil or similar is all.
Life ....

I will probably get shot for saying it on here but if i had to replace my 90 i think a Patrol would be the only viable alternative .

Somebody get the gun :D

When I got my 95 if it hadn't been any good I was going to look at a Patrol straight after, fortunately I bought the 95

I have looked at a fair few patrols but the ones down this way have all been rotten. I looked at one I even put my hand throw the sill then it all fell on the floor taking my hand back out.

The early 4.2 d are something special.

Stu

Got to be a scam at that price from a stealer.

Some people just don't understand do they?
Spotted a car a few days ago - advert is somewhat brief but does say please ask anything you need to know etc.
It's been up for sale 4 times.
I have emailed this genius 4 times with brief questions.

Will I ever get an answer?
Probably the same answer as "will he ever get it sold?"

Dear god...
