1HDT fuel pump service

Anyone tell me how often a 1HDT fuel pump should be serviced.
As far as I know mine hasn't been serviced since the car was new it's now done 255000kms.
The car runs well and no real issues, it has a bit of black smoke from the exhaust since the GTurbo was fitted but EGT rarely reach 700c. I have a modified fuel pin to fit but the local diesel specialist here in Harare recommended servicing the fuel pump as well.
Any thoughts?

If it's running OK I would suggest not having the pump messed with, other than maybe checking pump timing which can be done with it in situ. Have the injectors been serviced recently? If not I'd be inclined to get them checked out first.

I don't think they need servicing just rebuilding when they wear out and give obvious problems.

Any diesel pump specialist that I know of will just strip check and rebuild a pump replacing any worn parts then run it on the bench to confirm it is to spec .... so in affect a "service" is a full rebuild

That's what the guy here in Harare has suggested, I only really wanted him to fit the modified fuel pin I've got and to set the pump up to match the G Turbo but he wasn't keen to that without stripping and servicing the pump as well.. seem a bit of overkill to me.
