2002 100 series V8 has no 4th or 5th gear in an auto

Hey guys,

First time owning a 100 series V8.

I've got a serious issue my 100 series auto has no 4th or 5th gear, only occurred after the dealership i brought it off, replaced the stater motor. Found the earth straps on the back of the gearbox were unbolted, have reconnected the earth starps but still no 4th or 5th gear.

Apart from trying to reset the system by the battery what else could I try get them back?
I haven't checked the oil level in the transmission as I don't know where the dipstick is.

5 speed auto there is no dipstick it is checked from under the car auto at a certain temp and there is a plug in the trany pan that you remove if no oil drips out it may be low there is a plug about half way down and about half way along the side of the trans you remove iot and topup slowly untill it comes out of the plug you removed from the pan not sure go to Youtube to see how it is done but if they did a starter on it they would have to remove the inlet manifold so it could be a wiring prob but this would bring up a fault code check engine light on

Yer sweet, unfortunately there's no fault codes or check engine light, I did read on another question about the same thing to someone else and it ended up being a temp sensor related to the gears but no idea where to find them.

the only temp sensor that comes to mind is in the engine coolant temp sensor not sure about the auto

Test the solenoids for a low resistance,
I’ve had them fail, depends which one fails as to what gears you have or don’t have.
