Should the EDIC on a 2H stay in the over inject position for a few seconds while the engine is starting?

Mine flicks into the over inject position when you turn the ignition on but the immediately moves to the run position before the key is turned to start.

The engine does start although it often dies after the first attempt but will usually be fine on the second or third attempt.

It stops as it should if you earth the oil pressure switch wire.

Yes, all the ones I've had did this. As soon as the ignition is switched on it flicks as you describe. If it fires from cold and stops it usually is a glow plug issue.

Thanks Andy, I know the manifold heater isn't working but as the car lives in Zimbabwe I'm not going to worry too much about it. It was 34c here yesterday..
