Adding aircon

Disconnect the pipes on the engine side, and the whole box comes out towards the passenger seat (after taking out the mounting screws, blower etc). In the box is the txv, sensor etc.

Every single japanese car was made this way until about 10 years ago. Now its all one huge assembly that takes forever to get to, and contains the heater matrix.

This is good information, I can see my GS's conversion to air con getting nearer now.
Just got to convert it to automatic and we'll be just about there.
 
You'll struggle to cool anything with those electric compressors. The smaller unit at 30 amps is only 360 watts, or 1/2hp. The regular compressor can take up to 5 or 6hp at max output, so a half hp compressor will seriously struggle. Either way, you still need the rest of the a/c parts. The compressor, its mount, and the belt pully arrangement is the easiest part of the job.
