I'm new to the forum
My lj70 bundera 2lt has suddenly decided to blow white smoke on start up. At first I thought it was normal to do so on cold starts.. but it happens everytime I start it up for a few seconds then goes away..
Any suggestions what the problem is?

Cheers

I have been reading up regarding smoke puff colours as well.

One of many sites http://www.berrimadiesel.com/home/smoke-signals/

Got my attention is a small puff of black on start up.

Welcome to the club.

The 2LT is known to crack heads if the cooling system isnt maintained in perfect condition.

Has it been using any coolant lately? Is the inside of the oil filler cap clean?

The white smoke could well be steam if the head is cracked.

If you suspect the head could be cracked get the coolant system pressure tested. :icon-smile:

Thanks for responding guys
After changing my radiator, water pump and timing belt.. 2 months later I had the same problem..
Here are some photos of the infamous 2lt head..

Sadly the head is very badly designed by Toyota and failures like this are common and well documented! Many people believe its not a case of IF the 2lt head will crack but WHEN!

The one in my RJ70 is cracked in the same places as yours. :icon-cry:
