So as the title suggest, I'm wondering if anyone on the forum in the UK has dealer plates I could borrow. My truck is currently off the road and soon will be declared ready for export (2 months time or so).

However upon arranging shipment, I need to get the truck down to southampton for the RORO shipping. I'm wondering if anyone on here has dealer plates I could borrow for a few days to arrange this. I also need to get the undercarriage steam cleaned so will need to drive it to a friend of mine who will take care of that.... Definitely not taking the risk of driving it without insurance or tax on the day of shipment!! :wtf:

Alternatively does anyone have a car transporter trailer big enough for a cruiser and time to help me drag it down? Your time will be highly appreciated! :icon-biggrin: Just thought I'd ask here before finding out alternative measures....

Truck is located in London as well!

Any help appreciated,

Beau

Not a total help but for the move to the port I would try posting on Shiply and seeing what quotes come back

I got my car moved this way for about £1 mile on a transporter fully insured

hmm Not sure I like the idea of other people handling my car. I'd much rather be in control for what will be a bit of a crucial day

I know that feeling, the car I moved was my escort track car which I've owned for 17 years and had just spent £5k on a new engine. I followed the transporter the whole way :)

It would be a pita but tax is refundable and maybe your American insurers would give you a note for the day .

hmm doubt I'll get any assistance from the american side on the UK side. I just need to get it down to Southampton safely without any hickups!

Beau, I live in MK so if it suits you I could offer you mine and my cruisers services if you want to move your cruiser by trailer, only problem is I no longer have access to a car transporter trailer, offer is there if you need help mate.

You can't just lend out trade plates and be legal I am sorry to say. If someone did you would still have no insurance if you hit someone. If I were to borrow a set I have to register the trade plates on my insurance even if it's only a day.
I expect you would be better to send it on a transporter. They do move stuff worth alot more then a cruiser no affence is meant by that.

I would be more worried about it on the ship is it roro or container?

I've got the tow vehicle, a thirsty 100 series and a car transporter trailer Beau. Happy to help if you can cover my journey diesel costs from home back to home.

This sounds perfect Trevor! At the moment no dates are set so when I find out I'll be sure to give you plenty of notice. It'll be end of June, beginning of July time! Thank's again Trev, it's good knowing I have options.

I saw a discussion somewhere else and thought of you; it's come from some guys in the States who were talking about importing a limo from the UK to the States.

Thanks, my case is slightly different as I've got my green card so there are some exceptions DOT and EPA will make for me, it's still a lengthy procedure however. Hopefully worth it in the end!

Will you get spares for it out there? How did you get your dog over in the end and what was the cost with which company please

Not too worried about spares really. Hardest parts to find will be engine parts, but Most parts are serviceable. Suspension is shared with 4runner and Tacomas so I'll be fine there. I'll be bringing a spare alternator, fuel pump and starter as well.

Took my dog via Virgin in the end, cost was 1300 pounds. Got a oversized cage for her off ebay for 50 pounds luckily, otherwise that would have set me back another 300. I was on the same flight and was able to keep my eyes on her via cargo cameras. Overall Virgin did a good Job. Only thing was, her water bowl was fairly empty when I received her.

Can you pm me some more details of how you did it please as we have had silly quotes to send our boxer to Sa.
Cheers

I'm almost dreading you getting the truck out there i expect you will be teasing with me with discoveries such as " hey Shayne a supercharger from a Mercury Cougar is a direct fit for the Collie"

 Sounds about right! But I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch, paperwork process is still going through with DOT and EPA. I can only hope for the best. Will know for sure in about 3 weeks time, in which I'll be sure to start my "UK TO US" thread. It'll be awesome having such a unique cruiser over there. And I have so much plans for the truck! Especially engine wise. Long distance cruiser is what I'm after! I'll be touring up and down america in no time!

But on a serious note, they are so big on performance/suspension mods. It's insane, the market that's been created and choice. And if it's not what you're after, you'll be sure to find someone who'll build it for you.

Maybe i should delay ordering a new rad as i'm sure you will find a gold plated self cleaning one that also makes coffee soon enough
