The first civil engineering firm I worked with (Sir Owen Williams and Partners) were very long established, and they had (years previous) done a lot of experimental design work on thin-wall reinforced concrete structures, specifically on boat, barge and ship designs.
That would be before they invented steel then![]()

Cheers Stu, that looks like a great place to visit, unfortunately it looks like it would involve quite a bit of walking which is beyond my capabilities these days, I can't walk more than about 50 paces without needing to rest, it's very frustrating and limiting in what I can do.So was looking for something to do today and found Purton ship wrecks so thought it was worth a trip out.
I do love a bit of history.
So it's about 15 mins off the motorway if anyone is heading to the south west and wants a good stop that a bit more interesting then the services
