eu in or out poll

On a serious note (though this morning's events still seem surreal to me)....Boris Johnson is 4/5 on, favourite to win the Conservative Leadership battle, so most likely person to be the next PM.

:astonished:

Win win for the conservatives really, if we stayed they'd be a conservative pm and if we leave we get a new conservative pm

For the second time in recent years our pm will not be the pm elected in a general election :(

Well, well, well, I wasn't expecting that, despite voting for it.

Interesting times ahead and I suspect it could all settle down soon if the pundits on the radio and telly just 'shut up'.

Here in Scotland, the 'leave' vote was only 38% of the total and naturally Nicola is talking about another Referendum to decide whether to leave the UK and join Europe (would Europe go along with that??) . . .

I suspect the implications of that wouldn't produce a 62/38% vote in favour.

It'll be interesting to hear what Ruth Davidson says (Scottish Conservatives) as she was campaigning for 'Remain' . . . .

"Oh what a tangled web we weave ".

Bob.

I like most people on here didnt think we would actually get out! We all thought Remain would just win the vote! :)

But the EU has brought all of this upon its self! I dont think there would have even been a referendum, let alone an out vote had they not continually eroded the rights of UK citizens and pushed ahead with mass, uncontrolled immigration which has put tremendous strain on everything from housing to schooling to house care! :naughty:

The EU in principle and as it was set up was a great thing and had they not gone on to f*** it up so badly I would have voted to remain!

I'm just so glad the UK jumped ship and isnt going to drown with the rest of them!

I wonder if Merkel can see the huge damage she has done to Europe?

Yep, step up Boris Johnson.

Again this is the crux. I'm a bit sad to be honest that we have had to vote leave to get this far. If the EU had listened (and been able to listen) and allowed us what we wanted as a country, we could have stayed. Alas, after what happened to Greece, it was obvious that we wouldn't get any concessions and the only way that change could occur was to hold a referendum. We were forced into this really. Greece wasn't even allowed to have a referendum. George Papandreou was simply replaced by a chap from Goldman Sachs.

What of Scotland , will Sturgeon commit political suicide by forcing them to the polls over independence ?

They're saying she's going to wait until she's certain to get the "Yes" win before she calls for one, and that it wont be for at least 2 years.
That could be interesting, as she wants Scotland to remain part of the eu, the rest of the eu are looking for their own "Brexit", theoretically in 2 years time the eu might not be there because other members have voted to leave.

France, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Czechoslovakia, looks like these are looking to follow suit.

Before our "Separation time" under Article 50, there might not be anything left to separate from

Emotions are high at the moment. This feels a little like a divorce. We were once in love. Things turned sour, we then had years of argument. You kind of get used to the arguing but deep down you know its not good. Then you make the break and split. After the euphoria theres the come down. You feel alone and flat, have i done the right thing? Deep down you know you have. Convidence slowly builds and the new chapter in your life unfolds, new opportunities. A new beginning.

Nicely put CG that just about sums it up.

…but we will have the chance to do something constructive rather than just moan about the foreigners 'running' the show. This is only one tiny part of the journey. What we need now is a prime minister on our side who is capable of winning tough negotiation for us to be able to save some of the good bits for us.

I truly wonder who it will be…

Apparently, it's the other 27 countries who decide what we get...:frowning:

Which is exactly the reason we need a strong leader who can convince them to side with us.

Shouldn't be too difficult…

An interesting bit I saw today on the ABC news was about what was going to happen in the premier league and some of their players.

This to me is symbolic of the problems that the UK is about to face: Do we have the home grown talent to go alone? Have we got the diplomats (and diplomatic weight) to face up to the challenges of negotiating the trade agreements that we will need? If we haven't how long is it going to take to get it sorted?

I agree with the sentiment. But not the course, since one major issue we are missing in this context is the Politicians. Can we get a completely fresh start on that front too?

Who was it that said that a people get leaders they deserve. If that really's the case, politics worldwide has just turned into a game ( with lesser regard for the people? )

And do we have the politicians to set the policy the diplomats try to agree? If this has to be resolved in the next 2.25 years that's going to be a very small number of existing Tory MPs. As far as I understand it, 2 years after article 50 we either have agreement, or we revert to WTO regulations, or all the remaining EU nations can agree to extend the negotiations. In which case a general election could completely change the tack.

My money is on free trade, paying EU subs, and Shengen.

Rob, can't see us going down the Shengen route as immigration was one of the main reasons we voted out....

Scotland can only hold a Referendum if Westminster agrees to it . . .

If Scotland did become independent, and managed to join the EU (with the same conditions that the UK just rejected), it would become an "open back door" to the remainder of the UK unless there was a strictly-enforced border to prevent the free-flow of European (and other) hopefulls into England and Wales.

I can't see Westminster agreeing to that possibility.

But I'm not a Politician .

I think it was too. But I can't see the EU negotiating much of a trade deal without it, and I think Tory negotiations will focus on supporting big business. Sadly I think a lot of Brexiters voted on assumptions of stuff that would happen, and I fear they will be disappointed. £350m a week to the NHS for example.

Oh dear, people not thinking for themselves instead of listening to carrot danglers where the carrot turns out to have a rotten core. What short memories some folk have. We live in a country which was built on not only exporting technology and manufacturing (much now lost), but also on slavery (the reparations of abolition paying for a lot of our infrastructure https://www.ucl.ac.uk/lbs/ ). Basing the future on the past is a tricky , some might say dangerous, thing.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH:laughing-rolling: there wont be any negotiations! what has the UK got as a bargaining chip?the threat to leave? Dont you think that say European car manufactures will be rubbing their hands at the prospect of tariffs on British cars ? As for jobs if the cheap labour cant come to the UK the jobs will move to where the cheap labour is.
