Front brake backing plates

Hey there,

Looking for some advice. I have a 07/92 80 and my front brake backing plates are pretty much rotted away entirely. I am doing the full front hub rebuild, new discs, pads, all tie rod ends etc and wanted to replace the plates but they seem to be discontinued everywhere bar for 10/92 models onwards.

Does anyone have a work around for this? I can't be the first person in this position.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nayab Akbar on FB forums can probably provide rust free ones, they won't be cheap but probably mint.

These are the later backing plates, as he says in his post @chapel303 is looking for the early ones.

Sorry for lack of replies guys, since posting this I have found out I need a full rear axle rebuild. Spindles are so worn there's a lip the size of a cliff edge. Front end rebuild is on the back burner.

Are they necessary. Plenty of cars out there without them in their similar design.
