As the tile suggests, I have to overhaul the front callipers and may take this opportunity to upgrade the existing brakes , is there a straightforward bolt on alternative calliper from alternative models ?

My hj60 1983 Sahra has Hilux calipers on the front (1990 ish) slightly bigger pads than standard.
A few drawbacks are, you have to chamfer one of the pads or it grabs.
Most importantly when changing (in the future) said pads you MUST remember you have upgraded and to what, which I obviously haven't (frustrating).
Otherwise they work great.

I also have Hilux calipers on the front of my 60. It's a fairly straight forward swap. Loads of info in other posts.

I guess 80 series brakes don't fit ?

Mentioned only because I read of a "Landtank" iirc conversion kit a while back which allows the fitment of 100 series brakes to an 80 .

Hilux calliper's in mine too. Made a massive difference. No mods needed. Very easy. They will run very close to the inner wheel rim. Some aftermarket wheels may rub. But filing off a mm or two from each corner of the larger calliper's solves that
