Hi all Can any body help
Model Colorado 1KZ-TE J90, UK spec The glow plug warning light goes out straight away when turning on the ignition, giving no warm up warning time, apart from this the system seams to be working ok, on cold start in you count to 10 the car starts with no problems, so any help would be appreciated.

Maybe check the glow plug relay to see it's giving power for the few seconds and then cuts off as it should?
Although it sounds like it is if it starts ok after you wait the 10 seconds.

It's not that cold though is it, does it even need the glow plugs to start at the moment?

The glow plugs record voltage for around 6 to 10 seconds when cold so all appears to be ok, just the light on the dashboard playing up

Hi All
Looking into this further it appears there is a unit called a control unit glow plug system, this seams to be a mystery as I cant find any reference to it in any of the manuals and it doesn't show on a wiring diagram, also does any body know where I can obtain a Toyota workshop manual and parts catalogue
Many thanks

Here are the 2 pages covering the glow plugs and pre-heat system in the Haynes manual for the 1KZ-TE and 1KD-FTV engines, they are referred to at the same time.

Thanks for the info Mister Cruiser but it all works ok with the exception of the glow plug warning light, I now have a downloaded manual from Australia and buried in the engine info is a wiring diagram for the glow plug circuit, showing the timer and glow plug warning light all fed from the ecu so suspect the problem is in the ecu, so I will get the ecu checked as the next step thanks again for your help
