According to Toyota the grade of engine oil for the 1hd-ft engine has been revised to 5W30.

Is that UK climate specific or would it apply to warmer climates like South Africa??

Some years ago I think when I checked. I still have supplies of 10W40 which I still use for the 80 but I'm using 5W30 in the 100 as that is what it recommends in the owners handbook. No problem at all in using the old spec oil in the 1hd-ft engine . I suspect as with the 80 manual gearbox advances in oil technology enables a thinner and more efficient oil to be used in the engine. In future I'll still use the 10W40 as I feel happier with a thicker oil. No idea if that happy feeling is justified or not. Warren I should ring your nearest Toyota dealer for the local spec.
