Hot auto transmission

We have a 1997 auto 80series 40th anniversary. Have read on other forums that it's normal for the driver side centre console to get hot. No warning lights are showing. This has been happening to us but now on a long trip it sometimes slips gears but only when overtaking ? Have noticed gear box is slightly overfull could this be the problem or could the box be on the way out ?

I'd be fitting a transmission oil cooler if it was mine

Mine gets quite warm on the trans tunnel but not had any slip issues. Lot of exhaust heat too.
Has it got an oil cooler up front? My 97 has a factory one behind the grille.

When was the oil last changed in the gearbox?

I think if your trans is overfull this could be the problem. Drain some and check back and see if it make's any difference.

drain and check it, monitor the progress
