investigated the faulty headlights, and found both the bulbs had blown. fitted new bulbs and the now work perfectly again
LOL  I spent far to much time rescently tracing an ongoing headlight fault on our Volvo V70! As I'm sure you're aware they are always on & as a result require replacement at a vast rate! Because they're always on all the plugs & local wiring are buggered withing 12months of new! Anyways after much mucking about turned out to be a faulty lamp

Your trucks looking great m8  Bet you can't wait to get some mud up it :D Have a good day

thanks guys.

had a bloody fantastic day laning in the lakes.

and not too much damage.

feel exhausted now though, 16 hours behind the wheel. and about 400miles driven. :|

will get some pics and possibly vids posted up soon. ;)

had a slight issue on the way down, where by the steering wheel started vibrating and shaking. pulled over in the hard shoulder of the M6 and checked the wheel nuts were tight, which they were.
got to the meeting point and had a proper check and discovered the front off side wheel bearing had a lot of play in it. so we whipped the free wheel hub off and tightened the bearing up a bit.

it was fine the rest of the day, but felt incredibly slow on the road.

im seriously tempted to get the new engine in next weekend now.

the 2.5hour drive back was painfully slow.

ordered new front wheel bearings, so going to get them both fitted this week. and while the free wheel hubs are off will give them a service.

Yeah, I wasn't worried about you... Thought you were up with Mitch again ;)

Off to look at the pics & vids

Loads of room Gav, the only one I haven't taken the 100 up yet is scarhouse but 80's fit no problem.

nice trip report and photos - and brilliant to see the LJ70 back in action after all the hard work = paid off!

Breasthigh lane looks like its changed a bit since i drove it early in the summer, didnt like that leany bend with the turf bank, my landcrusier is scarred from an encounter with the bank...

Excellent  Do you think Muxley would have gotten round some of those tight bits?

yes but there would have been damage. :? the one lane, not sure of the name, the one with the unusual railway sign on the gate. was very tight. there were trees leaning into the track on the drivers side and a wall on the left. it was so tight i had to remove my snorkel top, and then drive as close to the trees my side and keep stopping and leaning out of the passenger window to check to see how close the wall was. thats where the damage happened, but luckily it isnt on the new panel or filler. even the hi-lux got a dent in the rear of the tub on that lane, and that truck is quite low and narrow compared to mine. :o

im thinking of fitting aluminium tree sliders like what Mitch has got on his landy down the sides.

yep west coast mate. when i bought it there was 2 options from westcoast. the ironman one which is designed to fit the real 70 series, so to fit an LJ oir KZJ requires making a new hole in the inner wing and bodging it onto the airbox.
or they sell a BIT snorkel made in the netherlands i think it was, that fits perfectly. it also has the side repeater built into, but IIRC it was £450 compared to about £150 for the ironman one. hence why i chose the ironman.

i like these pics of my truck on the last river crossing of the day. shame it wasnt deeper though. id like to have the water half way up the windscreen.
