LJ78 2LTE loss of power

Looking for some help guys.. My 1992 LJ78 had to be towed off the road today. Sad sad, Its an auto with the 2lte engine. Its been running great until this. It seemed to lose all power and the revs went through the roof until i took my foot off the accelerator. The boost light on the dash wasnt turning green at the usual revs. It felt like no power going to the wheels. I put the auto transmission into reverse and it also seemed to have no power but it still moved. I clicked back into Drive and the same thing going forward- high revs and moving slightly. Its getting seen to by my mechanic but if any of you Cruiser legends have any bit of info it would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds to me like a problem with the auto gearbox, not that I am an expert but the symptoms you describe are identical to those that a friend suffered on his auto box in the 80s.

Sad indeed but I would think repairable.
