My 80

Gave the 80 a run out today, started out with very thick fog and we expected it to continue when got to the Dales.
Well sun was shining and warm weather.
My only day off work for half term and the whole family enjoyed it.

Got out on a few lanes

Stopped at Aysgarth falls for a picnic, great views for lunch

Got a good few lanes in and ended the day at the wensleydale creamery too

80 performed great even with a knocking cv!
Didn't see anyone on the lanes and roads were quiet.

Nice summer day they're Gary for a bit of nature trails. What size tyres & wheels you running looks the business?

Thanks

This weather is cracking.
Didnt you end up at the WensleyDale creamery last time..?:)

It was a glorious day

I'm running 35x12.50r15.

We pretty much always end up at the creamery tbh lol.
Stock up on cheese, ice cream and use the facilities.
It's either last place to stop before heading home or a midway stop depending on the route.
The restaurant is really good too, we sometimes book for Sunday carvery.

Not loads to update on, new CV went in the other day from Karl, and mileage is still climbing slowly

Photo taken by the wife as I was driving.

It got a quick wash and shine with some quick detailer.
Away to the Lake District in a couple of weeks

thanks for the shout out Gary.
I always like seeing your truck. Nice to see a good clean one can be used and still kept at a high standard. I really need to get you to get a couple of mine to a mirror finish at some point ;)

You're welcome mate, was good to see you guys.

I like them to be clean, does get a hard life at times but it's what its built for.

Got both of mine to detail first! Easter weekend is set aside to do both motors, a day for each! Strangely the Beemer takes longer to do!

Might be a demand if offer my services

I imagine you could go full time mate.

Why do you think the bm takes longer?

I take more care with it tbh, plus the bumper shape, rubber seals and plastics that need masking, no trims to mask on the 80. Same compounds, polishes and waxes.
The bonnet takes a while though

We had a weekend in the lake district, I made a decision to not go laning :shock: I even replaced a noisy cv the other week but needed chill out time, plus we had a lake and boats.

We got set up on a chilly Friday afternoon on a site at the side of Ulswater, we had icy tents over night both days but even with no heaters we were warm, one of the group had never camped in the cold so had to borrow a few extras from everyone to keep the kids warm!

With views like these we didn't need to go anywhere

Our little group

We even did some sweet and sour chicken.

Nice bit of time with this little lady.

80 performed a good deed rescuing a stuck camper van and a few others in our group needed jump starting as were running cool boxes etc in the cars

The Coleman got used by most people as they were struggling cooking with gas burners.

Have decided when I start taking both kids I'm going to buy a trailer, not an overland type one but just a trailer to load everything in. We currently put beds on the back seats and don't want to go on the roof with it all.

So refilled the tank after our trip away and a little bit of running around, 13.9mpg average

We had a fair head wind coming home on the A66. Enthusiastic right foot too lol. Need to make it quieter so less fun

The secret to keeping the 80 clean

Had a low rpm misfire and power was hit and miss, distributor cap didn't look pretty so replaced it along with the rotor, obviously genuine parts.

Got some new exhaust bits, pair of cat converters as keep having issues with the other ones cracking, gone for a different design so need to slightly re design the exhaust and rock slider.
20190427_165231.jpg

Today was a 4x4 response event supporting Leeds half marathon

20190512_100951.jpg

Picture hasn't picked it up but inside the front side lamps (and reverse lights) are amber flashing warning beacons :icon-biggrin: nice and covert but very effective.

Very busy day and had a runner/retiree collapse while transporting him back  panic stations to get a medical team to him as kept going unresponsive, he got sorted though.

This was last week at air museum and I like the photo

Been on with the cat converters, had to order a few extra bits and my welder started to play up, wire feed kept jamming up. New liner for the wire feed and it's back up and running

20190516_210631.jpg

Old vs new. The old ones have cracked more then once, heat and vibration. The chassis where the down pipes run needs attention as the paint has been burnt off!! Rock slider is the same where the cats sit. May need to make some heat shields.
20190514_212231.jpg

I've been running with no cats at all but the emissions were attracting unwanted attention  previous sports cats didn't live long so hopefully these will work better.

New cats are fully fitted now, need to try get a pic but all hidden by the rock slider!
Emissions are happier, no leaks, no knocks but it's a bit louder/deeper now!! :icon-twisted::whistle:
Cleaned up the chassis near the down pipes, painted and gave it a coat of high temperature paint, if burns it off again I'll have to make a heat shield for the chassis!

Welder has even had a strip down and a few new parts fitted, it's about 15 years old now and never really been given much tlc so done well.

Couple of pics.
Cats tucked away inside the rock slider

Slider needs a clean up and paint!

Joined to the centre pipe
20190525_160943.jpg

Excuse the crap weld, as per previous had issues, it's not going to fall off though.
Joined to the down pipe.

We'll see how long the high temp paint lasts
20190525_160929.jpg

I'm possibly going to have to open the (only) silencer and add some extra material to make it quieter!!

Not much has happened with the 80 recently, miles rolled onto 89k!
Done various 4x4 response duties.

We went for a run out in the Yorkshire Dales yesterday, love being so close to such a great place. Barely came across anyone which makes it even better.
Had the usual cheese/ice cream stop off lol

Still need to look into making the exhaust a bit quiter, it's a little noisy in certain rev ranges.

Today we've been working with the team at Harewood hill climb soapbox derby. Marshals on site and towing the karts back up the hill. We even built a soapbox racer and ran it down the track.

The 80 sitting proudly

Getting the karts hooked up ready to tow, we took 8 at a time. Low 2nd and a steady drive back up.

Set up for the day.
IMG_20190818_180745_404.jpg

It was an early start, neighbour's got a 6am dawn chorus lol. Long busy day and pretty much non stop for us.
80 was admired as always as most people drive landys. Got asked a lot of it's a v8!
